Insider's Guide to Wedding Music

Choosing your music for your wedding is such an important aspect of the wedding that you should not leave it till the last minute or even worse, leave it completely to the DJ to decide what he will play.
Even more important than starting early with your choices, is to include your groom in the decision making process. This is the ultimate coming together of two people when they have to sit down and work out a communal music play list. Let the fun begin.
First step is to plan an evening with your favourite cd's on the menu. Do your preparation well and include some good eats, a bottle of wine and the best ambience you know will make him relaxed and happy to spend a few hours listening to music. Spend a great evening working through your music and end up with a selected play list that you both loved.
Keep in mind that some of your music will make him frown and pull faces. Bear with it as you know his turn is up next. At the end of your evening, challenge him to arrange his own version of the night and then work through his cd collection to find the songs you both love from that. Soon you will have quite a long list, but keep in mind, you need at least 5 hours of music to fill the night, so you are far from done.
The next items to make your play list are those songs that have special memories. The song you danced to when you met, what you listened to the night he proposed – the list can be endless. Also include songs that are special to guests attending your wedding. Play your dad's favourite song and let him know that you have booked that song especially for your dance together. Music is also a great way to remember loved ones that can not be at your wedding.
Hearing a tune that you selected for someone special will fill your heart with emotions for that person for the duration of the song. That is enough time to remember a loved one that passed away for instance. The next song may be your special date song, so you will snap out of being sad almost immediately.
With your play list complete, it is time to find a DJ . Make sure he is willing to compile your own play list as many of them will not put in the time and simply play generic play lists. As a final check to see if your DJ is what you are looking for, go and see him or her in action. Ask them where they will be playing and if you could come and listen to them. That way you avoid the teenage DJ that spends the night on his mobile with his feet on your table.
